4 Metabolic Blocking Factors Associated with Fat Loss Resistance

Losing weight and body fat is not as easy as it seems. Most people see weight gain as a simple fix of changing one’s diet and becoming more active, but oftentimes there are underlying metabolic issues which need to be addressed before fat loss can occur.  We hear of people struggling with fat loss because of hormonal imbalances, but surprisingly, 4 of the most common blocking factors related to fat loss are not talked about as much as they should be. In this article, we will cover these 4 metabolic blocking factors associated with fat loss resistance, which are candida overgrowth, birth control, toxic overload, and leaky gut syndrome.

Candida Overgrowth:

Candida Albicans is yeast that lives in the mouth, throat, and gastrointestinal tract of most humans and is considered as a part of the intestinal flora. This yeast can grow and multiply rapidly when the immune system is compromised.  According to the article Candida Albicans; Are You Winning the Battles, But Losing the War?, Bill Wolcott says, “The immune system can be compromised by immune suppressant drugs, multiple pregnancies, birth control pills, antibiotics, or eating a high carbohydrate diet.”  Bill Wolcott’s article goes on to mention that yeast overgrowth can cause serious long-term affects in adults such as fatigue, headaches, diarrhea, constipation, fungal infections, sweet cravings, depression, and weight loss resistance.  Since yeast makes elements expand it can be a major issue when you are looking to lose weight.

Birth Control:

Birth control can cause a multitude of issues with a woman’s bodily systems.  By changing the body’s natural hormonal cycle you run the risk of mood swings, food cravings, infertility, depression, and weight gain.  There are also noted instances of life threatening symptoms such as heart attack, stroke and blood clots. Some women have no noticeable symptoms from birth control while others may have intense symptoms from taking birth control.  Inflammation and weight gain are not symptoms to ignore while taking birth control.  In this instance get evaluated and understand that birth control can cause future side effects if untreated.

Toxic Overload:

If you ever read about the job of the liver you would know that it has the major responsibility of keeping us alive and healthy.  Not only does the liver convert nutrients into energy, but it also processes toxins picked up the food we eat and free radicals from the environment.  The liver is our internal filtration organ.  In the article A Little Help for the Liver, Karen Jensen writes; “The liver is a major blood reservoir, filtering more than 1.4 liters of blood per minute.” It removes bacteria, toxins, and various other unwanted substances from the blood.”

With all of the toxins that we are exposed to on a daily basis the liver can become over taxed causing many metabolic issues. This over taxation will result in a decrease in filtration and toxic overload in the body. Toxic overload can cause a number of symptoms including, eczema, psoriasis, arthritis, autoimmune diseases, hormonal imbalances, fatigue, depression, and weight loss resistance.  One symptom that is a definite sign of toxic overload and liver / kidney / gall bladder malfunction is yellowing of the sclera around the eye.

Leaky Gut Syndrome:

Leaky Gut Syndrome (also known as intestinal permeability) happens when your intestinal lining has been damaged.  Your gut lining can be damaged by many different factors including food allergies, over the counter drugs, and poor diet and life style choices. When this problem occurs food particles float through the damaged intestinal wall directly into your bloodstream.  This can have a major affect on your liver and also the other organs and systems of the body.  Over time a leaky gut can be associated with health concerns including diarrhea, intestinal pain, gas, vitamin and mineral deficiency, frequent colds, intense seasonal allergies, food allergies, irritable bowel syndrome fatigue and weight loss resistance.
