My wife started taking a Krav Maga class at Pinnacle about a year ago. Knowing that I had been on the lookout for a good boot camp, she told me that Pinnacle had a special community vibe and that I should check it out. I had been a runner for many years, but was feeling the need to balance my cardio with more core and strength training. Plus, I had put on a few pounds. I started Pinnacle in February 2015 and immediately noticed results in terms of my core and lower back strength. Even though I felt better and stronger, I still had pounds to lose. The timing of the Drop 10 challenge (late October to late November) was perfect because it ended right at my 40th birthday! I knew that I would not succeed in dropping weight with exercise alone. I used some of the key dietary guidelines that David Nash suggested and I adapted them to my lifestyle. Essentially, I began eating 2 to 3 times the quantity of vegetables as I had before and reduced my cheese intake by about 75%. I also greatly limited, but did not eliminate, my intake of bread and other grains. Most importantly, I spent more time in food planning and preparation. I made sure to have high protein meals (think smoked salmon or eggs + veggies) that were well-spaced to avoid over-eating from being super-hungry. This planning involved at least one conscientious grocery store visit per week and about 15 minutes a day of food prep. Of course, I also incorporated the fitness routine at Pinnacle with my own running for about 3-4 intense workouts per week. At the end of the 4-week Drop 10 challenge, I had dropped 13 lbs and about 4% of my body fat. The best part is that the changes that I made feel like ones that I can maintain over the long-run without feeling deprived or burning out. Pinnacle has helped me to identify fitness and nutrition practices that works for my particular lifestyle and a support network of like-minded people to keep me motivated. I’m grateful for Pinnacle and glad I took the challenge!
